7.00pm - Salsacise - salsa dance steps to music for exercise, no partner work involved

8.05pm - Salsa Dancing - Using the steps learned in the salsacise class to learn new moves with partners. We can supply partners if you want to come alone.

The Salsa Set is an independent community organisation run by volunteers on a not for profit basis. All funds are ploughed back into the classes and events. We are grateful to Awards for All, the small grants section of the BIG Lottery for funding during 2008 which made this possible.

One hour classes are held on Monday evenings in Laxton Village Hall, Main Street Laxton . Click here for directions and here for session dates.

The first class is SALSACISE starting at 7.00pm. People have told us they would like an exercise to music class where the emphasis is burning calories / building up stamina using salsa steps rather than learning dance moves with a partner. This is SALSACISE in a nutshell. There will be NO partner work. It will be an opportunity for beginners to join in and become confident with the steps before moving to the second class where dance moves will be taught.

The SALSACISE will be an excellent warm up for the dancing class, so people who would like to do both, are more than welcome.

As salsacise is based on salsa dance steps, it is also an ideal way for beginners to become confident with the basic steps before deciding if exercise or dance is right for them.

The SALSA DANCING class begins at 8.05pm.  This class will suit beginners and improving dancers and will be managed so that everyone is able to dance at an appropriate level.

The cost is subsidised to £4 for one class, £6 for both classes, compared prices in the area of around £5 / £8.

Please contact us if you are thinking of coming along so we can tell you more and ensure you are in the right class.

El Nico, our teacher is a well established tutor who runs a number of other classes, including Tuesday evenings in The Atrium in Newark and in Nottingham. His skill and sense of humour make for an enjoyable and relaxed evening mentally if not physically!. He is especially good at putting complete beginners at their ease. Click here for a profile of El Nico. He teaches a range of dance styles in addition to that generally recognised as salsa. Click here for a brief introduction to the origins of the dance styles we cover in our classes.

To help us help you, please Click here for a PDF copy of the membership form and fill it in before you come. This will make getting you in to dance much easier as you will only need to hand over your completed form and payment when you arrive.

No experience, partner or special clothing is needed – just wear normal shoes that will stay on your feet and are neither too slippery nor too grippy; clothes that allow you to move and bear in mind that you might get warm! Water is available for purchase and all profits from the sales go to support our classes now the grant has run out.

The sessions are available to over 18s only and are very suitable for people who have had many visits from Santa - the age range is 20s to 70s with a good proportion being over 40. 33% of the dancers are men, so if you are a man thinking of coming along - you will not be alone! In fact, although fewer men join, they are more consistent in their attendance than the ladies.

We will do our best to make the classes available to people with special needs. Please contact us to discuss individual requirements.
